Frequently asked questions

What is the starting grid foundation?

Becoming a successful athlete takes an immense amount of dedication and skill. Unfortunately, in the world of motorcycle road racing, skill and dedication will only get you so far. Just participating in the sport depends on one thing, money! A young rider’s aspirations to enter a race, develop their skills, and compete at the top levels can be shot down quickly when parents realize the six figure price tag that the sport carries. The sustained costs of coaching, equipment, travel, and entry fees can cause even the most successful young riders to opt out early.

Our motto at the Starting Grid Foundation is to support, connect, and compete. Through private and corporate donors we help riders and families handle the financial burdens of the sport. We also empower YOU, the fan, to directly impact the sport by allowing you to support the rider you want to see be successful. This gives you the power to influence what talent makes it into the sport, and the future of racing. Every dollar counts in motorsport racing and we make it possible for your dollar to have an impact in the sport that was once inaccessible to the average fan.

We approach our investments into young riders from more than just a financial angle. We believe that riders also need professional development guidance and mechanical expertise. Using this multifaceted approach, we expect our riders to outshine all their competition—both foreign and domestic. Our goal is to build and maintain lasting relationships with the riders throughout their careers, from the Starting Grid to the finish line.
